Lack of Transparency and Poor Service from Debt Scan
On the 21st of August 2025, my father was contacted by Ayanda, a consultant from Debt Scan. Unfortunately, they took advantage of his vulnerable state and convinced him to sign up for debt consolidation without fully explaining the implications, benefits, or drawbacks of such a service.
When my father informed me, I advised him to consult with his bank first. The bank strongly advised against Debt Scan’s services and recommended that he cancel before the first debit order scheduled for the 15th of September 2025.
I personally contacted Ayanda on the 25th of August. She reassured me that Debt Scan was not a “fly-by-night” company, but she failed to disclose important details to my father such as the inclusion of credit life insurance. When I attempted to follow up with her on the 27th of August, I was told she was busy and would return my call. To this day, no one has contacted me back.
I sent a cancellation email immediately, but it went unanswered until I called again on the 1st of September. Only then did Debt Scan respond. I also had to specifically request a copy of the application form, which had never been shared with my father after he supposedly agreed to it.
Now, we are being told that a cancellation fee must be paid. We will pay this fee just to put an end to this situation, but I find the lack of transparency, poor communication, and the way they misled my father to be completely unacceptable.
