Debt Collectors, Not Debt Counsellors

I was solicited into going under Debt Review by another company. After struggling to get myself removed for a year I was advised to get a debt counsellor to assist me. I approached Debt Rescue.

As per their advise there was nothing I can do, I will need to follow the debt review process through. This I then did with them.

2 of my creditors already handed over the accounts for collection and unfortunately I have to deal with them on my own. However my monthly payment with Debt Rescue had these 2 accounts included even tho I had to pay each of them R2000 separately myself. Another creditor kept on hassling me for payment, saying that Debt Rescue has not sent them any information and they also did not agree to any payment arrangements. Till today this has not been sorted as I still received sms and emails from this creditor.

During the end of 2023 my business was really struggling and I was not earning a stable income. I prioritised my employee's and suppliers to keep my business going. I explained this to the lawyers that Debt Rescue eventually got to contact me to collect arrear payments. I received threatening emails and never got contacted or counselling. I unfortunately ended up letting all my employees go middle of March 2024 and down scale my business completely. I managed to stabilise my business cashflow to a curtain extent in April and earn my first stable income end of the month. I requested from Debt Rescue on email to "Please bare with me" as it did turnaround.

Shortly after my email I received a phone call that was extremely unclear and I could barely hear the lady on the other line. She was extremely rude and demanded an immediate payment of the arrear amount, I tried explaining after which she said if I don't pay immediately, they will resign as Debt Counsellors for me. And as of this morning this is exactly what they did.

These people are debt collectors. They are not here to help you.
