Problems at De Wet Reitz Attorneys
Think twice before using De Wet Reitz Attorneys as your property conveyancing attorney. In my recent experience the following happened: 1) they failed to pick up that the seller intended to arrange his own attorney to de - register the existing bond on the property. Because this de-registration was done separately it delayed the registration of sale by 3 weeks. Standard practice in conveyancing is to ensure that existing bond de-registration, new bond registration, and deeds transfer applications are all submitted to the deeds office together. 2) they failed to advise me, the purchaser, that this error had occurred and made no attempt to warn me that this would delay final registration by up to 6 weeks. 3) they then made a simple typing error in my wife's name on one of the affidavits. Clearly the documents were not checked before submission to the deeds office. This resulted in rejection of the application for transfer at the deeds office and caused a further delay of 9 days in achieving registration. 4) throughout the 11 week process, communication from De Wet Reitz regarding progress or reasons for lack of progress was totally inadequate. 5) we paid R30,000 in legal fees to have or registration of sale processed accurately and timeously and De Wet Reitz failed on both accounts. 5) no apology has been forthcoming from either the staff or management and we are left with the impression that they have zero care for their customers.
