No parcel, No correspondence

I have updated my email and cell phone information with Dawn wing multiple times over the phone. The next day I phone back and the information is still incorrect.

I still do not have an invoice on my international parcel - although it is personal items, not imports. Fustrating. I still have had no correspondence from Dawn Wing regarding delivery. It's taken 2 days to get the parcel out the UK and a week in SA to get nothing so far. How difficult can it be to get an invoice via email?!

Now its Friday, with the weekend happening, it will probably not arrive till next week Friday. If it's not resolved soon I will be sure to explain my fustration to your international vendors on the UK side. I dont think you want to lose business from international sources.

Was on the site today and thought I would mention this for others thinking of using international courier...

When you post or courier a parcel across border you pay a customs fee. FACT. I know this. I have done it many times and its high, sometimes as much as 24% of the parcel value. You walk down to the post office and pay, that parts free.

Dawnwing is the local arm of DPD Laser. A division of DPD Laser. When I sent my parcel I used DPD Laser. One would expect that you pay a door to door fee for delivery quoted by DPD and then the customs fee when it arrives.

The problem is you dont. When your parcel arrives they hold it hostage until you pay the customs fee, a documentation fee and an agency fee. The doc fee they said was to get the parcel out of customs (hello you're a courier its in your possession and docs are always done on the senders side) and the agency fee when i asked has no explanation just pay it. I asked if that is for internal delivery and they said no you've paid for delivery already its just our fee. Anyway long story short I managed to speak to someone on the inside and they said it's a delivery fee because international courier uses so many channels they sometimes use other couriers. Which explains why I used DPD from the UK, Dawnwing phoned me for delivery but the parcel had a Aramex sticker on it.

This is bad business and so many have compained about this. I will not use either company again.

Dear Bjern

Please accept our apologies for the confusion and information you received on your import. Unfortunately when importing goods into South Africa any item in excess of ZAR500 must undergo a formal customs clearance with SARS due to the concession in place, whereby it attracts the necessary duty and customs vat applicable to the commodity.

The agency fee and documentation fee are indeed Dawn Wing’s customs clearance charges which are excluded from any freight quotation you would receive from DPD or supplier that the goods were purchased from. The freight charges quoted unfortunately exclude any customs clearance related fees and are often in the terms and conditions or FAQ on the suppliers websites.

We will ensure to review your incident with the individuals you have mentioned to reiterate the structure of the fees and to ensure they are communicated correctly to our customers. Please accept our apologies for the poor service you received.

Thank you, Dawn Wing
