On the 29th June I had Davis Pools & Decking (Pty) Ltd, visit my property to provide a formal quote to redo our property pool. I received the quotation from Schalk Liebenberg with a reasonable value to redo our pool. We eventually made a way to get the funds available to start the pool. On the 28th July Adriaan Davis (Profile Link: https://www.facebook.com/adriaan.davis.31 & https://www.facebook.com/adriaan.davis.7) started the job accompanied by his partner Schalk Liebenberg (Profile Link: https://www.facebook.com/schalk.liebenberg.10). Work started off very well, they started draining the pool and clearing the paving around the pool. Adriaan Requested for funds of which I could only pay a small amount at the time as he needed tools, because according to him was used by another team that was working on a pool for him. The following day 29th July, more funds were requested to get material. When getting the pool ready for chipping Adriaan then brought to my attention that the pool structure was not correctly done. I immediately said that work should stop as I expected the price to increase due to more work that was required. Adriaan agreed that he would finish the pool at the agreed price of R25000.00, which I was glad to hear and I told him to continue. Adriaan requested more money to get more material as he said he would use the current pool’s structure and re-enforce the structure to hold. Adriaan needed a wheelbarrow of which we both went together to purchase it as he told me about his previous company A1 Pools and other topics. Adriaan and his team was picked up by Schalk as Adriaan’s transport was not working. Later the evening I went to go look for more details on A1 Pools as Davis Pools & Decking was a new registered company (A1 Pools link: https://www.facebook.com/A1-Pools-***). The following day Adriaan returned, got more material and continued working. He explained what needed to be done for the day of which Schalk also came to see what the problem was. The afternoon Adriaan requested more money of which, we had almost paid him a deposit of 70%. Adriaan was not at the site most of the day as he was out getting material or no progress was made. Friday morning I call got a call from Adriaan saying his going to be late as Schalk was not available to drop them and he needed to make transport arrangements from Krugersdorp. I then search again for A1 pools and found a disrupting Hello Peter post. (HelloPeter link : https://www.hellopeter.com/a1-pools). Adriaan did work for the gentlemen in the post and never showed pretty much in the same situation as mine, requesting money and not seeing progress. I confronted Adriaan about this and he said it was when he was working for A1 Pools but they completed the job. He did the re-enforcing of the pool and was busy with the cementing of the pool. The afternoon we had a discussion with him as he requested more money and explained why he need the money to pay for the workers and for rent as they have not been paid and he would have lost his place which he was staying in. We paid on an emotional decision and also to get the pool done as the workers refused to continue if they were not paid. Adriaan said that his partnership with Schalk was bad as this is the reason he started on his own. He also had transport issues of which we help over the few days to fetch him and his team from Krugerdrop and drove all the way back to the east. The Saturday morning I drove through to Krugersdorp and picked him and his team up, I spoke to 2 workers seperately of which they told me that they were paid and they started cementing the pool from the floor, thereafter started with the sides, due to shortage of material we went to purchase more material of which we deducted from the balance we owed, and the guys were not half way with the pool. At the end of the day we spoke to him and asked what needed to be done, he said that we would require more ready mix and cement as we can not leave the pool to dry up it will start cracking. I drove to Krugerdorp to drop them off and Adriaan instructed 1 of his team member to come on Sunday as he had another job site to inspect to provide a quote and will see us on Monday. Sunday we drove to pick up his team of which no one was able to show, we called Adriaan and his phone was off. At about 10 am we eventually got a call with excuses from his team. I asked him what’s going to happen with the remaining hand-packing (cementing) of the pool as an entire day had been wasted. Later the Sunday he called again to say he will be there to on Monday to complete the pump and the remaining hand-packing as the pool can not stand and get dry. We called Johan from the Hello Peter Post to find out the story and he said that he needed to get sub-contractor to complete the pool as the pool had not been completed and also incurred additional costs to complete his pool. The Monday (3th July) Adriaan was a no show, and received the additional material we had ordered as the suggest amount was not enough. The Tuesday we got sub-contractors to complete the Handpacking of the pool as we had not received any feedback from Adriaan. On Wednesday I called numerous times as Adriaans phone was working and I kept getting excuses from various people, I said to pass on a message that we will be processing the case as service rendered has not been fulfilled. Thursday we got called by Adriaan of which he said he will come to complete the work at no guarantee and the Marblite would be delivered then and he will see us Friday. Friday we never got any feedback from him and asked about the Marblite. Friday evening Adriaan left a message to say continue with the case and see you in court because we got other people to finish the handpacking. Saturday Morning we got a call requesting a picture of how far the sub-contractors got he then said he would complete the work without guarantee, Schalk got onto the line as said there is no chance we paid Adriaan the full amount for the pool, We have not heard from them since, we are saving funds to complete the pool at our own costs.
