Puppy Blues

<p>I recently bought a miniature dachshund from Johan at www.dapplesa.com who is a miniature dachshund breeder in Pretoria. She was very small and the very next day I had to take her to my vet as her tummy started running. She was given antibiotics and other medication and appeared to be on the mend only to land up back at the vet a few days later. She wouldn't eat or drink, slept all day and her tummy was running like water. The vet tested her stool and diagnosed her with Coccidia which is a parasite that lives in the wall of the dogs intestines that is passed on from the mother. After more medication and a blood transfusion she sadly passed away after spending days at the vet who tried everything to save her. My vet actually couldn't believe that Johan sold me such a malnourished and sick puppy.</p> <p>In hind sight everything about the purchase of the puppy was unprofessional. After arranging with Johan to meet at 1pm as we were an hour away, he wasn't there and we had to deal with his staff. We were'nt shown the kennels or the puppys parents and when I mentioned to Johan over the phone that I wanted to see them he said I must just look on his website. The vet card wasn't ready but I did receive it over a week later. The price I was quoted over the phone was R1700 but when I paid I was told that the females were R2000 and the males R1700 and that unfortunately there were no males available. I should have walked away!!</p> <p>My question is .... Shouldn't he be held responsible for all the vet bills and made to refund me my money? Surely the breeding mother of the puppies should be free of all parasites etc so that you are guaranteed a healthy puppy?</p> <p>Please be careful if considering dealings with this breeder !!!</p>
