Rage, someone has used my details to successfully open credit card, this person has used it and I only picked up on clear credit score

Rage, someone has used my details to successfully open credit card, this person has used it and I only picked up on clear credit score. The credit it's written dantec credit. I then googled and called the number it was Rage contact centre and the person asked my information for verification id number, names, address, phone number, then later indicated this looks like *****ulent account but she refused to give the details on their system asking that I should go to police station and do affidavit and send to them via email. This is a huge concern and wondering how Rage verify customers if they grant credit card to the person using information that is not hers/his? My credit history is affected negatively, please advise.
