FALLING INCIDENT, NO ACCOUNTABILITY!

On the 19th of January we requested the wheelchair-accessible transport to take my dad for his physical therapy session. I have been working with DAATS since June 2023, so I am definitely a loyal customer to their business. On the specified day, the transport was an hour late, upon starting the trip we asked where the patient seatbelt was and we were told it had been left in another vehicle. To make matters worse, the driver was speeding to a point where my dad’s caregiver asked him to driver better as there is a patient in the vehicle. The driver did not listen and continued to drive carelessly. He suddenly braked the vehicle and my dad fell out of his wheelchair sustaining a terrible injury of four fractured toes. My dad is frail and elderly, so this type of injury for him was a big shock. For the next two days he cried from pain and we decided to take him to the hospital where he got assisted. Throughout this whole process I had been communicating with the owner of the company, Caroline Malaji. Once I had told her I am at the hospital and began to tell her of the costs incurred she started to claim that she has no money and will not be able to pay us from the problem her driver caused. She told me that I must take my dad to Helen Joseph despite already being helped at Life Flora Hospital. After sending her messages of progress and invoices of medical bills she started to ignore me on calls, WhatsApp and via emails.

Please think twice before using this provider. When a problem arises, they will not assist you in anyway, whether it be trying to claim from their insurance or find a solution that both parties are happy with.

It is truly heartbreaking to see people treat my family like this. All we wanted was to take my dad for physical therapy but now we are left with so many bills and invoices without any accountability from the company that caused this problem.

Before dealing with this company, ask them about their insurance policy, the PDP of the driver who will be transporting you and the company’s permit which allows them to conduct such business.

The only way is to go the legal route as Caroline does not care! What if the injury had been worse and my dad had to be hospitalised? What if his current injury gets worse to a point of hospitalisation? It is extremely stressful to be in this situation and I am just very disturbed by this incident.
