DISASTER EVENING AT CABANA
We drove down from Joburg to Capetown to join friends at Cabana for a good evening and to look at the carnival parade that was happening in Capetown.
Our friend booked our table (corner couches) 4 days in advance by personally going over and making the booking in person.
When we got there, the same server who did our booking told us immediately that Cabana is fully booked. We asked her to check the list where she found our details and booking details. In stead of taking us to our table, they told us we can't sit there and had to move to another spot (right next to the bar under loud music.) Their reasoning - those tables are for more than 6 people and we were only 4. They did not at all mention this fact to us when the booking was made?
Anyway, after that we mentioned to the waitress that we made the booking by her personally to which she immediately **** and said we did not and only later admitted when we caught her out on her lie. She then carried on to tell us we are can only spend 2 hours max in the lounge and then we had to leave because of how busy it was (PS there were more than 8 tables open when we counted)
We asked to see a manager twice and waited over an hour before another server came over and said "he is standing in as a manager tonight". They flat out refused for us to sit at the table we booked and said we can stay if we put down R15 000 deposit for the VIP section.
Obviously we did not "fit the image" since we are more on the rock and roll side than urban city living. But it was absolutely outrages to be treated so poorly.
Not once did we receive an apology or did they try to rectify the situation. The servers and "manager" treated us like we were the ones at fault and wanted us to GTFO.
While this was happening we ordered one drink each - to which we also had to wait half an hour for the bill to arrive after we requested it.
I would never recommend this place to anyone, unless you fit the stereotypical image. We were treated like **** by more than 3 servers and waited over and hour to speak to someone who just didn't care to help us at all.
In fact - the "managers" own words were that we had to spend a lot of money to be there. I don't know what they think we were, but we walked out, went to the Skybar around the corner and spent a good evening in the company of friendly servers who reveived a big tip in anway.
My friends and I felt highly insulted by Cabana's actions and ethical conduct. Their service and attitude was unacceptable and disgusting to say the least.
