Misinformed on purchases!!!

I purchased 3 items of which 2 were on sale. The reason for the third purchase was in case the shoe didn’t fit as a gift. A week later I went to return it and I was told that they don’t do refunds and that I should read my slip. I was appalled at the rudeness firstly and secondly of being misinformed when the original purchase was made as the staff knew fully well that I would I return the item should the gift fit for the intended person. It’s really disappointing that a retail store treats customers this way. Now I have an extra pair of shoe which I have no need of!!! Where is the customer satisfaction on this? I have logged a complaint and requested for someone to get back to me and am still waiting a response. The purchases and return all had taken place at the Pavilion mall.
