Ridiculous Gift Voucher Requirements

I went to Cresta in order to purchase a gift voucher. I was told that I had to supply a drivers license in order to complete the purchase. I then offered to pay with cash and was told again that I had to show my drivers license. My license is kept in the car so this wasn't a practical option for me. I was told that this was for security reasons and that this procedure went back a long way. something that I am unable to fathom. I think that this whole episode was ridiculous and unacceptable to me.
