Lazy Cresta mall security refuses to help

I had accidentally left behind a shopping bag in a shopping trolley near the entrance, in the underground parking at 6pm during the week (closing time), there weren't many cars and the mall was quiet. 20 mins after leaving, I realised my mistake and called the mall.

I spoke to Leonard, a member of the security team, told him what happened and asked if he could speak to the underground security and the trolley collectors. There are also cameras there, so I assumed this could be quickly resolved. Leonard promised to check and call me back immediately. After waiting another 15 mins with no word from him, I called again. He said that he hadn't got round to it yet. half an hour later he called to say that there was nothing in 'lost property' and the parking office didn't know anything, he had not spoken to the trolley collectors, but promised he would do so.

I called again in the morning, the security team said there was nothing in lost property, I asked about the security cameras, they said they hadn't checked it. I asked to be transfeered to mall management, a woman who answered said they couldn't (wouldn't) check cameras until I went to the police station and reported it. I asked to speak to the head of security, Mandla. he assured me this was unacceptable and that someone would double-check. I received a call from a lady security saying she had chatted to Leonard and he said that he "had forgotten" to ask the trolley packers. He had basicalley done nothing, he hadn't made a note of it or asked others to follow-up.

This was the extent of their effort. My issue is that this could easily have been resolved during my first call. it was soon after I left my bag. The disinterest and apathy from the night security was pathetic. What is the point of having cameras and a security team if they refuse to assist? I lost more than R800 worth of shopping. If someone had walked off with my shopping or if a staff member had found it - it could have been resolved quickly and within the hour of the initial call.

Good day,

Thank you for taking the time to give us the below feedback.

Your concerns based on your experience after you accidentally left your shopping bag in a trolley near the centre’s entrance has been duly noted. We are sorry you have been subjected to such a frustrating series of events.

The trolley attendants employed by the various stores work on strict instructions to retrieve all trolleys and return them to the stores, this is done at regular intervals throughout the day. In instances where shopper’s belongings are found in the trolleys these are then returned to the store or sent directly to our “lost and found” desk.

Below is the processes provided as feedback by our head of security following his investigation of the matter as communicated with yourself.

· A security officer working in the area is alerted of the matter and advised to initiate a clean sweep of the identified area

· The lost and found desk is also checked for new entries of returned or reclaimed items

· Query is sent to trolley attendant working in that area and also the shops that employ the trolley attendants

· Query escalated in order to employ additional resources

· Findings to be communicated with the relevant supervisor and the shopper.

In this particular incident our security staff could not located the said shopping bags as the attendants had already removed trolleys in the vicinity. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience experience. We will make every effort to train our staff more thoroughly in providing timeous communication for a better service experience.

You are welcome to contact us directly on *** / email: *** for further feedback to better serve your needs.
