At Cresta the customer is not king
I have been shopping at this shopping mall for over 30 years. I still remember when the end of the mall was once more or less where Dominiques now is and that it ended with a large fish tank. So I consider myself someone who knows this mall well. Lately I am not so happy about shopping at Cresta and I have phoned the centre management about it. I also spoke to a certain Mohammed about my concerns. These were not addressed. So, herewith then my concerns. There are persons who ask to wash your car when you park in the parking area. With all due care and compassion for those needing employment, the rates that they charge are very high and they just don't take no for an answer. You get harassed every time you park. These persons argue with you when you say no. This is the worst at the parking area where the Panarotti's entrance is. I have spoken to the security guard on duty about this and he says that many people complain about the same thing. At Cresta, parking is now only free for an hour, so having to fight off people whose business you don't want, wastes one's time. As the parking is so expensive now, you just want to do what you came to do and leave. No browsing around in shops any more. I am sure this affects the shops' business and sales. So in my humble opinion, the management of Cresta Mall is killing off the goose that lays the golden eggs. Years ago when I was still an university student, I used to work in Greenacres in Durban in my free time. At the beginning of every day you were required to read that "the customer is king". This is a good motto for business. At Cresta, it seems the management wants to make more money, employ more people and save on expenses, all this at the expense of the customer. Consider this, not far from Cresta Mall is Ferndale on Republic Mall with boom security and free parking and no one harasses you to wash your car at an exorbitant rate. I notice that this mall is becoming more and more popular.
