Think twice before booking. Check older reviews too

I attended a biscuit baking experience with Create-a-Lot, expecting a pleasant and enjoyable day out. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. We spent approximately 6–7 hours there, and instead of enjoying the outing we left feeling completely drained and uncomfortable. Participants were encouraged to ask questions, but when we did, we were often ignored or given dismissive responses instead of proper guidance. For example, when we asked why bicarbonate of soda was used instead of baking powder, we were told that the recipe was “foolproof” and that if we wanted to change it we should Google other recipes. As beginners, we were simply trying to understand the process and left without a clear explanation. We expected guidance and encouragement, not to be made to feel uncomfortable for asking basic questions. My mother-in-law was not made to feel welcome and was at times clearly ignored, which was upsetting to witness. The presenter came across as unfriendly and impatient, and the overall atmosphere made what should have been a relaxed learning experience feel stressful instead. After reading other reviews afterwards, it is clear that similar concerns about attitude and treatment have been raised by other customers, which is very concerning. We also noticed that the business previously operated under the name Soetlief en Jasmyn Suikerkuns Studio, and many of the older reviews describe similar experiences. For the time and money spent, this experience was not enjoyable and we unfortunately would not recommend it.

Dear Chantelle,
Thank you for your feedback.
My baking classes are designed to be hands-on learning experiences where every student actively participates in the baking process from start to finish. During the Assorted Biscuit Baking class we cover a large amount of practical work, techniques, and multiple recipes within the allocated class time, which is why the session runs for several hours.
Students are always welcome to ask questions during the class, and explanations are given throughout the demonstrations and practical steps. The specific question you mentioned regarding bicarbonate of soda vs baking powder was briefly addressed during the class in the context of the particular recipe being used.
It is also important to note that maintaining a respectful and focused learning environment for all participants is essential during practical classes. At times there were phone calls and video calls taking place during the class, which can be disruptive to the teaching process and to other students trying to concentrate and follow instructions.
Despite this, the class continued as scheduled and all participants completed the recipes and left with the biscuits they baked themselves.
Over the years I have trained many happy students, as reflected in the numerous positive reviews and returning learners who attend multiple classes.
I am sorry that the experience did not meet your personal expectations and wish you all the best on your baking journey.
Kind regards,
Charmaine
