Unpleasant visit to the Vet

Very sad experience, We had an African Grey Parrot for over 20 years, grown to really love him. On Wed 18.03.2022 he didn't look well, my husband immediately took him to our vet Pierre van Rynveld, where he was treated for a respiratory infection, the prognosis was not good,he was still battling, we took him again on Thurs. & Friday, but my husband was advised to take him to a bird specialist, my husband took our parrot to Craig View Vet., on arriving he was told to pay R500 the bird was taken by a lady for assessing, he was told that if he wanted any treatment done on the bird he had to put down a deposit of R1 500, my husband insisted on seeing the vet, he was taken upstairs & spoke to Dr Bull who advised him it would be better to put the bird down at a price of R500, my husband said he would rather take our parrot back to our own vet to be put down for free, the vet then became rather unkind telling my husband he had no compassion whatsoever ****rue) he said if it was a money thing he would put the bird down himself free of charge & refund the money, which he did, we were just horrified at the treatment my husband received, he is a pensioner & doesn't have sufficient funds to cover those costs.
