Do not use Craig View Vet in Benoni for any specialised procedure

We took our 6 year old Chow X dog, Sasha, into Craig View Vet with a suspected cruciate rupture, by appointment, on Thursday 20 May. She had not been fed as she would have to have anaesthetic for the X-ray to ascertain that it was, in fact, ruptured. Throughout the day we called for a progress report and were told time and again that she had not yet been seen. At 6pm we were finally contacted and told that the Vet had not had time to see her but to leave her there overnight and she would be seen the next morning. So, our beloved Sasha had been in a cage the whole day, without food, not knowing what was happening and for this no apology given, just excuses. They did say, however, that they would feed her that night. Big deal, this is our baby they're talking about, who normally sleeps on our bed. The next morning Sasha was finally taken into theatre for the x-ray and we were told that if the ruptured cruciate was confirmed they would do the repair immediately. However, we were contacted to say that Sasha had stopped breathing during the anaesthetic and they therefore had to stop the procedure and on closer look at the x-ray "a mass" was discovered in her chest, which was pushing up on to her other organs and this needed to be investigated by someone specialising in this type of scan, which could only be scheduled for the following Tuesday. Following this information, we had the most ********** weekend, wondering how long we still had with our beloved Sasha. Come Tuesday and the specialist conducted her chest scan and found nothing there!!! Again, no apology but dismissed as maybe Sasha was lying funny or the x-ray wasn't working properly or whatever, but bottom line, an unnecessary expense for a mistake on the part of the Craig View vet. Up to now, we had laid out R4000+ for nothing - except an x-ray to confirm what we knew already. I wrote to Craig View and put these facts to them and asked for a refund of some kind to compensate for, in my opinion, very bad practice and misinformation, not to even mention stress and trauma. The resident vet called me and told me everything from his side of the story, not taking into account one thing from my side, although I kept on saying to him, to try and see this from both sides. The following week we took Sasha to Johannesburg Specialist Vet. They did the x-ray and the operation on the same day, without any drama or difficulty and we brought Sasha home two days later and she is doing brilliantly. In conclusion - do not use Craig View Veterinary Clinic.
