Beware of the contractor

Michael ****s, Owner of ****s' fences, appeared as a seasoned pro. I thought his estimate was high; however, I saw pics of his work and decided to hire ****s Fences. Note: His work only looks good from a distance. See the pics of my job.

They got to the job within about 2 - 3 weeks after I decided to move forward. The job was supposed to take two days.

The crew arrived on schedule, and the job began. After a days work, not much was accomplished other than my old fence was completely demoed, and I had no gate and two open areas leading to my backyard, and this is when things begin to go south.

You see, I told Michael upfront that if I had to deal with my neighbor whom I share the fence with, the deal was off. He said I would not have to deal with them AT ALL.

By the end of the first day, they had left the old fence in the neighbors front yard. Really? I was told they asked the neighbor, and the neighbor said it was fine. Really?

The job took way too many days, 2 of which were a Saturday and Sunday. Michael told me he would have his foreman (his son) out as soon as he woke up. I received a text from him at 5:20 PM stating he'd be out in 30 mins. I told him not to bother. I can't say the job was finished because it still isn't.

After ****s got paid, (big mistake on my part) I asked to speak to the owner, Michael ****s about the quality of work performed by his son and two other employees, and he would not agree to speak to me in person without his two intimidators, Nathan and Brian (both quite intimidating in size and stature).

I did not agree but to get the opportunity to have a $3,400 amateur job corrected I just let it happen.

The fact that he was adamant in bringing those two individuals should be a warning to anyone wanting to hire this contractor.

So, on my weekend (a week later), once they showed up to correct the multiple issues with the work performed, I was called out because there was the smell of alcohol on my breath. I had a few beers on a Saturday, in the privacy of my own home, and Michael didn't like the smell of my breath.

It was stated, I was not qualified to speak! The owner MICHAEL ****S, said because I smelled of alcohol, whatever I said was combative and unworthy. My son videoed the entire situation and can show how non-combative I was. I paid for a professional job and got amateurs, and in my opinion, they didn't like being held accountable for poor quality work. Seriously, look at the pics.

During and after the job, I cleaned up many cigarette butts and water bottles, which was not okay. They had no concern if the residence was sensitive to the smell of smoke, cigarette butts, or the trash left behind. At one point, an employee brought his girlfriend and an unleashed dog onto my property to wander around. This list of problems goes on and on.

Beware if you are trying to improve your surroundings, in my opinion, you will get quality based on what the property currently looks like. Mine looked like it needed work. That's why I was replacing a 50-year-old fence to start with.

Maybe I was an isolated incident. I doubt it. Hire this company at your own risk.
