Avoid Purchasing Natural Solid Timber Tables from Coney Timbers in Newlands.

With compromised timber quality and extremely poor customer service, I recommend staying away; their timber is not worth the price. Here follows my story; After moving to Cape Town without furniture, I found an organic-shaped, solid table with steel legs from Coney Timbers in Newlands for R15,500. As a first-time natural timber furniture owner, I was unaware of quality indicators such as distinct wood-borer holes, already present on the new table. However, a friend identified the holes as wood-borer damage whereby I contacted Coney Timbers immediately. They dismissed my concerns despite storing their furniture in an open-air, unprotected environment in the Newlands forest, ideal for wood-borers. Over the following 2 years, visible damage gradually appeared on the table's surface, bottom, and edges.

Desperately concerned about the increasing visible damage, I contacted Coney Timbers again but received a tardy, and unhelpful response. Finally, after weeks of waiting, they suggested I return the table at my own cost to their open-air premises for varnishing with an off-the-counter sealant that a pest control company deemed unsuitable and ineffective for the table’s specific thickness. The experts also noted wood-borer holes covered with the original varnish, indicating the infestation existed when Coney Timbers originally varnished the table.

Since I lived in a brand new apartment and none of my other furniture pieces have this problem, it negates their claim that wood borers infested the table after I purchased it. They also refused to assess the damage in person, despite being only 10 minutes from their Woodstock workshop, which speaks volumes about their quality and service.
