Waiting Area

I just spent 18min in a "waiting area" to get tickets to the Federer/ Nadal match. I clicked on book the split second it opened. I would just like to know how your waiting area works. I waited for 18min, and then was redirected to say that all tickets have been sold out. How quick should a person then be? Should we not all be given the chance to purchase.
