Shocking Service

I received shares from Sanlam while employed by them. I got married again after my first husband passed away and thus my surname changed. After two years I got divorced from the second husband and changed my name back to my first husband's surname. I sent all the certified documents through to Computershare on

10th June 2016 and called them to make sure that they received it. They confirmed that they received the documentation and told me that it will take between 7 and 10 days for the dividends to be paid into my account. On 21 June I called again and was told that they did not even look at all the documentation yet and they could not find my divorce papers and they were completely confused with the surnames! On 28 June I called again and was told that they were still confused with the name change and now they need my first husband's death certificate (he passed away 25 years ago long before I received the shares from Sanlam!). I spent about 15 minutes explaining to different people exactly what was going on. They then told me that the one part was done and the dividends will be paid into my bank account on 1 July. Then I called their Action Line (***) to lodge a complaint and spoke to Marie who promised to come back to me within 24 hours. I am still waiting for her call! On 1 July I spoke to a manager at last after I said that I was going to the Ombudsman with them. She had a lot of excuses and still insisted on the death certificate! Late in the afternoon on 1 July Gordon called me to tell me that everything was done now and that I now will have to wait another 7 to 10 days for the dividends to be paid into my account! I told him I was not happy with this state of affairs and did not hear from him again on Friday 1 July after he promised to call me back as he first had to speak to his manager again! I am really disappointed in their service. Do they think they can pacify clients with lies because they do not (or cannot do) their work properly??

On Friday, 1 July 2016, we called and explained that the documentation you had provided was not correct and incomplete, but that we would use alternative means of verification to confirm the information you had provided. Our member of staff also advised you that your account would be updated and outstanding dividends requested. At that time, you agreed to the arrangements and that you were aware that your dividends would be paid once the verification had been completed and audited.

Kind regards

Computershare
