Lost share certificate

I bought MTN via a company called Ikageng - Johnic in the early 1990s. I didn't receive any communication from them. I called Computershare in May inquiring about the shares. I was told they are on their system and all correspondence to me was sent back to the sender. They requested the share certificate which I don't have and the company that I used to buy the shares was long unbundled. I was told I can't be assisted without the share certificate. I suggested that I make an affidavit that supports my claim and then they decided not to respond to my emails. Even though I don't have the share certificate but my details are on their system, does that mean I forfeit my money? Computershare is a way of ******** people of their money or what?
