Broken system
Dealing with Computershare as an executor has been a nightmare. Unlike other institutions that accept emailed documents, Computershare insists on physical mail or courier—even though SA's postal system barely works. Their call centre is slow and unhelpful, and the whole process is outdated and inefficient. In 2025, there’s no excuse for not offering basic digital submission. Absolutely frustrating experience.

10 Jun 2025, 16:18A consultant did follow up with a call the same day — the interaction was polite enough. However, the process hasn’t proven fruitful. The shares in question are worth less than their internal dealer costs, so we agreed to donate them through their offered service.
That’s where things stalled. Despite being 2025, Computershare still insists that estate documents be couriered or physically mailed to their office — emailed copies aren't accepted. This means spending over R100 just to allow them to donate shares that are effectively worthless, solely so we can close the deceased’s account.
The rigidity and inefficiency of this process are baffling. At a time when estate administration is already emotionally and administratively taxing, the lack of basic digital options feels outdated and unempathetic. All I want is to tidy up the account and move on, but Computershare has made even that simple task needlessly difficult.
