Never buy from Comet caravans rev II
I traded a perfectly good Jurgens Palma on a Jurgen Exclusive cash deal. The deal included Comet does the registration and licensing for which I paid. After waiting 2 1/2 weeks I had to drive up from Veneering to Kempton park to get my natis papters and numberplate, the papers I got but no number plate I had to have one made myself. I was informed by Morne that he had 4 brand new tyres fitted for me then on further inspection of the caravan I noticed it was 4 different tyres goodyear and firestone and they were not brand new, most probably taken off other caravans and put on to mine. Okay I said that should be okay and checked further only to discover that the caravan had been in a severe hail storm the roof is badly dented. I contacted Morne and was told “ o I wasn’t aware of that, but Ill give you a letter stating that we won’t penalise you when you trade it in by us” so that *****s me from trading it anywhere else, anyway 4 months down the line I still haven’t received the cover letter! Our first weekend away with the caravan club and friends the geyser malfunctioned and burst the water pipes underneath the van, once again phone Morne and ha said he would send out technicians the Saturday morning, I told him I would replace the pipes myself and he could come collect the van on the Monday. It took Comet three weeks to try “fix” the geyser and many, many phone calls to Morne from me to find out the progress. After I received the van back I obviously tested the geyser it was working but the geyser took 2 hours to heat up. Got rid of the thing a put in a new one. So off we go to Buffelsport for a week’s holiday, upon returning home I did my routine inspection of the van to see that all was okay when I noticed the LH Rear tyre was running off badly in the inside. I made an appointment with ALKO to see if the could set the wheel alignment or how do I fix this. After there inspection ALKO informed me that the swing arm was badly bent and was going to cost me R 6 350.00 to fix, that was on the Monday. I immediately phone Morne again and explained to him what I did and his famous reply “ I’ll get back to you shortly, needless to say he did not phone back so I phoned again and was told O I’m discussing it with Chris, still no response in the meantime the weekend was coming closer and we where going away, so I gave the go-ahead to ALKO to fix. Eventually on the Thursday I had to phone Chris and try find out what was happening, he informed me that they had a second hand axle they would fit free of charge! I informed him that I couldn’t wait for a week for them to respond as we were going away, then I got the “I’ll get back to you” well he did and informed me that their director had made the call, because I didn’t bring the van back to them they weren’t willing to meet me half way with the costs because they offered me a second hand axle. Well I must tell you guys ALKO came to the party big time, not only did the refurbish the back axle but did me the big favour of doing the front axle as well with brand new components free of charge. Now is that first class service or not. A big thank you to companies like Alko and Loftus caravans that deliver first class services. My fellow campers I would strongly recommend you to stay away from Comet Caravans in fact I wouldn’t buy a rusty nail from them. I didn’t bother mentioning the other problems I had with the caravan that I just repaired or replaced myself. So guys think carefully before going to Comet caravans. Derek Tessendorf 08-08-2019
