*WARNING: Columbia Crestwood R2499 - Caused Injury + Refund Refused | CGSO Case **** On 19 March 2026 I bought Columbia Crestwood hiking shoes for R2499 at Columbia Sportswear Outlet, Sandton City. I specifically told the sales lady I needed hiking shoes for climbing Kilimanjaro and asked for her recommendation. She recommended the Crestwood. I wore them ONCE for a short walk. I ended up with severe pain and swelling in my ankle and knee. I could barely walk.when I phoned them they said bring the shoe I returned to the store following day to request a refund. They refused, saying "you've used them". I then opened a case with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud. *CGSO Case ***-**** After 3 MONTHS of waiting, CGSO closed the case "Not Upheld". The reason: Columbia denies that I mentioned Kilimanjaro, and their inspection found "no defect". It became my word vs theirs. While Columbia was holding my shoes for "inspection", the exact same shoe was advertised on Takealot for R1874. Under CPA Section 55, goods must be reasonably fit for the purpose that the consumer made known to the supplier. I did. They were not. Columbia's final response to me was: "you can go legal, no problem". I'm posting this with all proof - receipt, CGSO outcome, and photos - so other hikers don't waste R2500 and injure themselves before a major hike like I did.
