Poor customer s****s
On Sunday 17/09/2017, my daughter called numerous CNA stores in and around Cape Town enquiring as to stock availability on a cell phone special being advertised. After receiving all negative responses, she called the St. Peter's Square branch in Observatory. Firstly, the salesman on the line did not know what my daughter was talking about and kept asking someone else in store all the questions. Eventually he told her to call back in 10 minutes as he needed to confirm the price. This already I consider poor service as he should've offered to call her back but nevertheless we did just that and were happily informed that yes they do indeed have stock. So off we went with my daughter eager for her new phone but when we got there I was informed by the manager on duty (Yasmina) that the only one available was in the display unit. As a rule I always purchase something that is in a sealed box so wasn't interested in that. I was quite perturbed and informed Yasmina that I had specifically called in to avoid this kind of disappointment. She said that the salesman was new and only started working there 2 days prior to this incident. He came forward and apologised to me. I took this on board and asked Yasmina to call another branch to enquire about availability but according to her, they too were sold out. Whether she in fact did call, I can't say. Here again, poor service as she didn't offer to call any other store. If she was truly interested in being helpful, she could've done just that. This is what really irked me, the total blasé and unconcerned attitude of Yasmina who didn't look as if she wanted to be there at all. Other than saying the salesman is new and she was still training him, she did not offer any apology and had this total deadpan look as if to say "what is your problem". When I commented that it's so difficult to get good service these days, only then did she come alive and tried to tell me off. I told her as a manager she could at least apologise but she refused saying she shouldn't have to apologise for something that one of her staff had done wrong. Excuse me, is that not the job of a manager!!! In her own words she was busy training the salesman, so clearly someone has to be responsible for him. According to Yasmina, he didn't have to tell me the display unit was the only stock they had "because it can still be sold". A little more information Yasmina wouldn't hurt anyone. The other branches we called, specifically told us they only had the display unit available. When I left the store at 13:30, Yasmina was already busy packing out the display to lock up the cell phones; and this in a store that supposedly closes at 14:00. Clearly this indicates that she had no wish to be there and was making sure she was out the door promptly at 14:00. Makes me wonder how they treat a customer who comes in at 13:55 and asks to see a phone. Also by the time I left, she still hadn't apologised and arrogantly told me who her manager was and that I am most welcome to contact her in the morning. This I will certainly do but I will also be taking this further than her manager. As she so boldly informed me that "customers have rights but so do sales people", I will definitely be exercising my right to take it further.
