Terrible Service from a well known Name brand company
I'm a single female biker who's been riding a 150CBR since I was 16, and have been saving up for a long time to finally buy myself a touring bike. It took me a while but was finally able to track down a Honda NC750 X DCT. In October 2022 I bought my Red 2016 Honda NC750 X DCT at CMH Honda Menlyn, which is the closest Honda motorcycle dealer near me, coming all the way from Middelburg. The salesperson, Albie, was very nice and the process was fast and without any issues.
On 15 February 2023 when I was coming home from work in the pouring rain, the bike suddenly switched of in the middle of the road. I tried several times to switch it on, but the bike didn't want to switch over to Neutral. I called Albie and he instructed me to bring the bike in, to Honda Centurion because Honda Menlyn closed, so they can check to see what the problem is.
On Friday, 24 February 2023 I took the bike in and Albie informed me that due to year-end the bike will only be checked that Tuesday because they had a few other bikes that needed to be finished ASAP. The first week went by and I received no feedback from them regarding my bike. During the second week I tried phoning their offices, but the phone just kept ringing then cutting off.
On Wednesday 8 March I phoned Albie and finally he answered, only to inform me that he's away on business and cannot give me an update on my bike. I'm a shift worker so sometimes it's challenging for me to phone during office hours as I work nightshift, so I sleep during the day. Stil unable to get through to the office I had to wait till Monday.
After calling multiple times, I called Albie again and he gave me the mechanic's number to which I still couldn't get through even sending him a WhatsApp to please give me feedback as my bike has been standing there almost 3 weeks. Eventually he picked up on Tuesday. At this point my patience was wearing thin, and the mechanic informed me he still needs to complete a few tests which he will do on Wednesday. I asked him to please keep me informed and send the quote as soon as he knows what the issue is so I can get my finances ready or inform the insurance company if needed, and organise a lift for me to centurion as I would drive my bike back to Middelburg. I never received any response from them and by Thursday I called again, after several tries with no answer the mechanic responded, only after I called Albie complaining. The mechanic informed me that he already sent me the quotation, as per my request, on Thursday 15 March , but when I opened my emails the quote wasn't there, but rather in my spam box.
Upon opening the quote I was entirely shocked to see the final amount they quoted me for parts and labour but still not explaining what the issue was. Again after phoning several times, I finally got hold of the mechanic and he couldn't give me a root cause as to what caused the problem and all the tests were clear according to the Honda index. I continued to contact my insurance because the amount is equivalent to what I still owe to completely pay off the bike. Now first an assessor is going to have to assess the bike to which they are most likely going to write off the bike due to the amount they are quoting me.
After consulting with another bike mechanic currently working on my 150CBR, they were unsure as to the service that I received indicating it's questionable. Now I have to fetch my bike at Honda just to take it to another mechanic if I want a second opinion for the insurance or risk having my bike be written off. That means I'll have to rent a trailer again and wait till my next weekend off to do so, and I only have a certain amount of time to claim from the insurance. I am shocked at the terrible service I have received and feel like I was targeted because I don't have any mechanical background and the fact that it was my first big touring bike that I was still getting used to it. I only used the bike to commute to work and back home, only drove it for a long distance three times, including when I drove it for the first time to Middelburg after purchase.
