Delaying Warranty repairs
I bought my Honda CBR300R motorcycle brand new from a salesman called Edward Prinsloo at CMH Honda Menlyn on 1 June 2017(Drive home date) who assured me that it is in perfect working order. I just had to fit the number plate myself which I gladly did. On collecting my bike to go home, I found that the right hand throttle counterweight was loose and I asked Edward if this is normal as I'm a total noob on motorcycles and did not know these things, he assured me that it is supposed to be like that. On my way home that very same evening the right hand counterweight went missing somewhere along the road. When I got home I noticed the missing counterweight, so I sent Edward and email immediately explaining this. The following day Edward assured me that he will sort it out and get me a new one asap. This never happened. Four weeks ago on a late Sunday night after work(10pm) on my way home this same Honda broke down with me. I called Bike Assist who sent a breakdown vehicle to collect me with my bike and take me home. The next day I phoned Honda and asked them to please come fetch this bike from my house and to see what's wrong. They refused and told me that they only have a 5km range in which they are allowed to collect vehicles. I called the AA who gladly obliged. They collected my bike from my house and took it to their Depot and the next afternoon they took my bike to Honda Menlyn where my bike stood for TWO weeks before Honda Menlyn would even take a look at my bike to see what's wrong, they rep**** that they only have one technician who was overbooked with money generating vehicle services and that he won't be able to assist with my bike for a while and they will try to get to my bike in due time. I kept quiet, but knew that this is deferred priorities. Eventually they got to take a look at my bike two weeks later and the technician stripped my bike's engine and found that a bearing(thrust washer - campaigne), a conrod, a piston and a sleeve were badly damaged due to a factory defect(Campaigne) bearing/thrust washer which malfunctioned. They told me that they would TRY and get this done under warranty. I thought "TRY" while the bike is only about three months old? This is definitely warranty related so it HAS to pass under warranty. They waited another week to get the warranty claim approved before they ordered the parts of which some were allegedly on back order for another three weeks. I refused to take this as an answer and sent a complaint email to their branch manager(Albie) through their online message system who never rep****. The following day a service department lady phone me and said that ALL my parts arrived and their technician could start two days later to work on my bike and they promised me that my bike would be finished by Friday 06/10/2017 at 5pm. At 3:30pm The the same service department lady phoned me and told me that their technician wouldn't be able to finish my bike before they close, and asked me if they can postpone it to Monday. I refused because I have no other transport to get to work and back. Then two minutes later this lady phone me again and told me that they told the technician to work overtime and that my bike would definitely be done and in tip top running condition by 5pm 06/10/2017. On Friday 5pm I was at their branch in Menlyn waiting for my bike. I asked if I could see the problematic parts, and they showed me the thrust washers which malfunctioned as it was listed as a campaign/callback as it was a factory defect. After the technician finished assembling my bike and washing it, he delivered it to me at the front of their workshop and said that my bike is now perfect and ready to be ridden. I asked again if they are sure that my bike won't brake down on me on the way home, of which the technician assured me that I can trust the bike. I asked him to please take it for a test drive to make sure one last time for my own mind's sake. When he came back he assured me again that my bike is in excellent running condition and I may take my bike and safely drive home. I got on my bike and asked him what happens If I drive off and it breaks down again. He rep**** that he will still be at the workshop and will assist me. So on that assurance I was too happy and took my bike, started it and off I went. About 2km from CMH Honda Menlyn I noticed that my bike's speedometer wasn't working. I immediately turned back to the workshop, but on arriving I found all doors locked and nobody to assist me. There were no emergency numbers displayed anywhere for the workshop, so I was left to my own devices. I started my bike and drove home slowly. About 10 km from CMH Honda, the engine management light went on. I immediately stopped next to the road to see why this is. I found nothing. SO I started my bike again and drove because the engine management light went off and I thought that it might have just been a glitch which does occur sometimes in vehicles. About another 5km the engine management light went on again, so I stopped, switched off my bike and notified my wife. I started my bike again as nobody could assist me. The engine management light was off when I started, so I drove off again slowly. Again after about another 5km the engine management light went on again, so I stopped again, switched off my bike, waited a bit, started and found the engine management light off, so I drove off again. This time the engine management light remained off for the rest of my journey home which was about 30km. I parked my bike in the garage, locked it up and went upstairs and directly sent CHM Honda an email stating my disapproval of their customer service, and that I want to cancel this deal as I am well aware of my rights under the customer Protection Act". Now I want CMH HONDA, and MFC who financed m y bike to either give me another NEW other model bike or cancel the deal completely. And I expect a call immediately as I don ot feel safe and I cannot trust this motorcycle anymore.
