Blood on sheets, vomit in rooms, SHOCKING SHOCKING service!

· On arrival, our luggage was taken to the room which we were told one of our bags had been damaged. The pull-out handle had snapped clean off and the porter said this is how it came off the bus. I told him that’s impossible as the bag had been fine all the way from the UK to South Africa to Mauritius but somehow snapped on the bus to the resort? I have filled in a claim form for this.

· We were given a room upstairs which proved difficult with an infant and carrying a buggy up and down the stairs, also the Aircon wasn’t working in the room and the door lock worked intermittently, so we requested a ground floor room. We were given a room and on arrival, the room had a putrid smell of vomit. We went to Mikayla (GO) who apologised and told us the room would be spring cleaned from top to bottom. We got back to the room later that evening and nothing had been done. We called Mikayla and she said they should’ve been there and would call them again. We couldn’t wait as the children were tired and needed to sleep. When the cleaner came the next morning, he agreed he could smell vomit in the sheets and the floors.

· We called and said we weren’t happy with the situation and would prefer to cancel our remaining days. Mikayla called back and offered an upgraded room as an apology and suggested we move there and not cancel. When we got into the room, my wife lifted the sheets and found dried blood on the mattress protector, again, the cleaners were sent in and replaced the sheets, pillows etc. We had also found out that my uncle had bed bugs which he caught from the hotel room and also requested to change all his linen.

· The next day, we found out that our daughter had chicken pox, we went to the doctor and said he could only confirm the following day as the spots were too small to tell. The doctor confirmed the next day that she in fact had chicken pox and would need medication. We went for breakfast and was approached my Merlin, who introduced herself as Chief of the Village and apologised she didn’t want to shake my hand as she has not had chicken pox before and that she has young children. Unprofessionally, she spoke about the situation in front of everyone in the restaurant and embarrassingly mentioned that we would not be allowed in the village at all, but would gladly bring food to the room and a chair and table for my daughter.

· We went to our room as requested and over the next few days, every time we called to order food for my daughter, we were told that there was no room service available or the food would take 2-3 hours to be delivered or the food would be totally forgotten or the food arrived ice cold. On one occasion, 2 GO’s told me the food was on its way and eventually the doctor brought the food ice cold and he too was confused why he had to bring the food. Nothing that Merlin said would happen was done. As a result, my wife and I were taking turns going back and forth to the restaurant so we could bring some warm food for our daughter.

· As we were tied up trying to keep my daughter entertained and fed, we also had to clean and sterilise our youngest baby’s bottles. When we asked reception if they could possible get the bottles cleaned in the dishwasher and we would sterilise them, all we were told is that there was a baby room and we had to do it ourselves. Trying to do 6-8 bottles a day took up a few hours of my wife’s holiday cleaning bottles. Not to mention that the brush provided was so dirty and old that my wife went and purchased her own I don’t see why the bottles couldn’t have been loaded into a dishwasher and passed back (we have never had a problem at any other hotel)

· The upgraded room included tea and coffee. On one occasion, the coffee/tea hadn’t been filled. 4 telephone calls later and promises to fill it up and still nothing had been done until the next morning.

· I must add that we all felt the food was disappointing, the selection of fruit was limited and of poor quality too.

· I paid extra for the “super-fast Wifi” at 250 rupees for the day, however, the speed was exactly the same. When I complained, I was told “Yes, it doesn’t make much difference” and I wasn’t refunded?

· Finally, on my first point, I filled in the insurance form for my damaged bag and asked the reception to make me a copy, I was told it would be emailed to me. I am still waiting for the email.
