Unhappy with treatment given.

My mother was admitted from the 14th till 22nd August, under Dr Seloisa.

I would like to bring a couple of issues to your attention.

My mother is a native Xhosa speaker, and despite her being ‘compos-mentis’ throughout her hospital stay, she was unable to understand her diagnosis and hence could not give me any feedback. Due to this, I had then reached out for Dr Seloisa to kindly update me about my mother’s progress, unfortunately this was not received well as the Dr, told me that my mother, has a GCS of 15/15 via Icu manager and therefore feedback will be given to her directly. Even after i emphasised that communication barrier is a problem, my mother was also told out loud by the Dr with no privacy at all that she must warn me to stop phoning and wanting to find out of her progress because that is not how she works. To this day, I cannot tell the details (diagnosis) of my mother’s stay and have not received any discharge report.

The main reason that has actually led me to write this, is because I nearly lost my mother on her day of discharge from the hospital. My mother arrived home, after being discharged by Dr Seloisa, looking unwell, with difficulty in breathing, this was just few hours after having left the hospital. Seeing the way she was, we had to rush her to ED another hospital,After the Casualty Dr saw her, she was sent for emergency Ct scan of the chest, which later we were told that my mother has a ‘Big clot’ in the major vessel of the lung and is very lucky to be alive and had to be given actilyse stat due to severity of PE. My mother is currently in ICU after having been cleared from Tshepo Themba and discharged by Dr Seloisa!

For someone who was in hospital, discharged and barely stayed 2 hours at home, then got readmitted for something soo severe, that may have taken her life, I request for answers and explanations and transparency to my mother’s records and treatment she had received whilst in hospital.

I will appreciate a timeously review and feedback considering the gravity of the situation.
