Non-hospital authorization

On the 30th November 2015, I took my mother to Tshepo Themba hospital. She was seen in casualty and diagnosed with Bells' palsy by Dr Makamu, subsequently admitted on the same date. In the ward she was treated by Dr Maduna. She was then discharged on the 11th December 2015. On the 30th December 2015 I received a call from accounts department in Tshepo Themba hospital informing me that Medshield (my medical aid scheme) has refused to pay. I then contacted Medshield and enquired about non- payment of hospitalization. Medshield responded and informed me that authorization was never granted to Tshepo Themba hospital to admit the patient. And also Medshield informed me that the hospital changed the diagnosis from the initial diagnosis, that is why they are not going to pay.<br> Now the two organizations have put me in the middle of their mismanagement of the case. Tshepo Themba has to explain why the patient was admitted if the medical aid scheme never approved authorization for hospitalization. And I was informed only on the 30th December, after the patient was admitted on the 30th November. This constitutes bad service on the side of the customer (Me). <br>
