Unsolicited Marketing Calls – Explain How You Got My Details & Stop Immediately!

I am beyond frustrated with Clientele for repeatedly contacting me with unsolicited marketing calls, despite never providing my consent. I am not alone in this – many others have complained about the same invasive and disruptive behavior.

I demand an immediate explanation as to how you obtained my contact details and why I am being targeted with these calls. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you are required to lawfully collect and process personal data. If my information was obtained without my consent or shared improperly, this is a serious violation.

I have now formally requested that my details be removed from your marketing database.

However, I want written confirmation that this has been actioned and a clear response on how my information was acquired. If this is not addressed promptly, I will escalate this matter to the Information Regulator and the National Consumer Commission (NCC).

Dear Tyrone P,

We thank you for escalating your concerns to us and allowing us the opportunity to address your complaint.

We confirm that all our data is received from external suppliers. This data is sourced through multiple channels, namely, Credit Bureaus, Public Domain Information, and Data Acquisitions.

We have since requested for your details to be removed from our database and would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience caused in this regard.

Kindly note that you can also follow the below steps to Opt Out:

Step 1: Go to www.clientele.co.za and click on the search button.
Step 2: Type in “Opt Out” and select “Clientele Communication”
Step 3: Follow the prompts to opt out of receiving marketing content.

Furthermore, it is important to note that other companies who receive their information through the same channels may have your details and you could still be contacted for other promotional campaigns. Therefore, to prevent the same from happening in the future, please ensure that your information is listed on the 'Do Not Contact' list.  All our suppliers must adhere to national legislation and their data is checked against the national 'Do Not Contact' list hosted by the DMA. More information on this can be found at www.dmsa.org.

We trust you find this in order, however, should you require any further assistance please feel free to contact us again.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Lindiwe Mabizela and Services Support Specialist,

Thank you for your replies. However, I must reiterate that my concerns remain unresolved. Let me clarify my position clearly:

  1. Specific Source of My Information : While I appreciate the general explanation provided regarding how Clientele Life acquires data, it does not address my specific request to know how you obtained my personal information . I have never consented to receive marketing communications from your company or any of your partners. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), I am entitled to an explicit explanation of how my details were acquired. Please provide this information as soon as possible.
  2. Immediate Cessation of Contact : Your unsolicited marketing calls have caused significant disruption and frustration in my life. This issue has taken up far too much of my time, and I no longer wish to engage in further steps such as opting out via your website or registering on additional lists. It is your responsibility to ensure that my contact details are fully removed from all databases associated with your organization and its partners.
  3. Confirmation of Removal : I require written confirmation that my details have been permanently deleted from your marketing systems and those of your suppliers/partners. Additionally, please confirm that none of your affiliates will attempt to contact me again for marketing purposes.
  4. Future Action : If these requests are not addressed promptly and satisfactorily, I will proceed to escalate this matter to the Information Regulator and the National Consumer Commission (NCC). I trust that you understand the seriousness of this situation and will act accordingly.

I look forward to receiving a comprehensive resolution to my complaint without delay.
