Refused to pay out for policy and still continue to take premiums missed

I had a funeral policy with clientele Life for almost 2 years where I insured my family members. My mom passed away on the 24th of April 2024 and I put in a claim for her. The consultant that I spoke to said I had missed 2 premiums for my policy. she advised that the premiums missed will be deducted from the payout. I was asked to forward through the relevant documents, which I did. I was also advised that an assessor would contact me, to date I have never received a call from Clientele. I had funds that I transferred from my unit trust which came in a day or 2 later which clientele took money for the 2 premiums. No one came back to me regarding my mom's claim. I was the one making a follow-up daily and eventually, I was then told my claim had been declined and an email was sent through to me. I want Clientele Life to reimburse me back the premiums the last 2 premiums they took and give me the recording from their consultant as they give conflicting messages. I have even taken them up with the ombudsman.

Dear Nokuthula M,

Thank you for escalating your concerns and allowing us the opportunity to address your complaint.

As discussed, it is important to keep paying your premiums to ensure that you are covered. In the event of unpaid premiums, cover will cease until such time as premiums are paid.  The premium for March was unmet and only resubmitted after your mother's passing, hence the repudiation of the claim.  The deductions continued because the policy was in an active status to provide cover for the rest of the members.

Please note that if you are not satisfied with the outcome of the concerns raised you can direct your complaint to the Complaints Arbitrator at ***.  The Independent Arbitrator is an Independent Authority with the power to overturn or uphold the above initial findings

We trust you find this in order, however, should you require any further assistance please feel free to contact us again.

Yours sincerely,
