Clientele through Europ Assistance not paying for ambulance services after emergency hospitalisation due to life-threating Sugar Diabetes even promised to pay in the policy.
Around mid 2019 I a joined Clientele Health Event Life Plan which offers R5000 benefit for a hospital stays longer than 3 days. As part of the policy I am entitled to emergency assistance from Clientele through its Europe Assistance alliance as specified in section 1.3.1 of the policy document this includes paid for ambulance services in the event of an acute illness which can be any life-threatening illness. At the beginning of November 2019 I was diagnosed with sugar diabetes at a local clinic my. My sugar levels where at an alarming 29 mmol which required an immediate hospitalisation as I was at a risk of suffering a coma and other life-threatening conditions. The doctor at the clinic immediately recommended that I be hospitalised for DKA treatment. I called clientele 24 hour helpline services to report the emergency situation to which a clientele agent further requested the ambulance services from Netcare 911 and I was taken to New Somerset Hospital and placed under DKA to avoid the life threatening diabetes condition i risked. My disappointment with Clientele is that for the second time since December last year I have received an sms from Netcare 911 to personally settle the the invoice for R2110.56 for the ambulance services i received when i was transferred to the hospital for the life-threatening diabetes condition I had developed. The policy clearly specify that Clientele through Europ Assistance will pay for the ambulance services not the member. Do I have to call clientele more than 25 times like I did for them to pay the hospital plan claim of R5000? Now Netcare 911 has given me a 16 days period to settle the ambulance services invoice or risk being handed over to the debt collectors. I am very disappointed by Clientele to say the least.
