Clientele not to be trusted once you die.

My mum passed away in 1996 June. I had a funeral policy with Clientele at the time and paying R100 per month for a cover of R10 000. My mother was diagnosed with cancer of the stomach, operated on and passed away a few months later without recovering. Clientele refused to pay as their excuse was that she was diabetic. They did not even refund my premiums. Wrote to Ombudsman but he said that Clientele was not a member then and therefore he was unable to sort it out. It is a small amount Clientel looks for loopholes to avoid payment . Would not recommend them as a trustworthy company

Dear  Satish R,

Thank you for raising your concerns and bringing this matter to our attention.

We would like to assure you that at the time the claim was lodged, it would have been assessed by a specialist assessor, and the repudiation approved by a Claims Manager. Accordingly, we can confirm that the decision to repudiate the claim would not have been taken lightly. As we understand that clients may want to challenge the validity of the repudiations, we have an established complaints process, whereby clients can complain.  Furthermore, we are now a member of the voluntary Long-Term Insurance Ombudsman. However, as the claim in question was submitted about 24 years ago, and no evidence of extenuating circumstance causing a delay in challenging the repudiation was provided, we are unable to review the claim. Should you require any further assistance in this regard please feel free to contact us again.  Kind regards, Claims Department
