Clientele Life lives up to what they promise - Review by Cynthia I (14 Dec 2017)

I took up an Ultimate Dignity Plan with Clientele in November 2017 and since then I have been generally satisfied with the assurance that my loved ones will not be left with a financial burden of a funeral cost in an unfortunate death event. Today I took some time to read through my policy documents again and I found something very disturbing under the conditions of the PREMIUM PAY BACK section (I have copied and pasted that section below). Can you please explain, in simple terms, the final bulletin which states, "Where a Spouse is covered,..." The reason why I am confused by this statement is because I am paying a fixed premium for myself and a separate fixed premium for my spouse. Why is it that you will only pay back 50% of the total premiums paid? Perhaps I might be misinterpreting the statement because Cynthia claims to have received ALL premiums paid, but anyway please clarify. My apologies as well for using this platform for such a query but some consultants are usually not clewed up with the terms and conditions of such policies.

PREMIUM PAY BACK BENEFIT After six months and six paid premiums, on the death of an Insured Life and approval of a valid claim we will pay back all premiums received for the specific Insured Life (see Personal Policy Schedule for relevant premium split) in addition to the total funeral benefit paid. This benefit only applies to the Main Insured Life, Spouse and Extended Family (where applicable), in other words this benefit does not apply to any Children covered on the policy. In addition, the Main Insured Life has the option to receive 50% of his/her respective premiums paid back in cash at age 65.The remaining premiums due for the Premium Pay Back Benefit will be payable to the Beneficiary on death of the Main Insured Life. When will you not be covered: l Death before we have received six premiums in at least six months. l Death due to a violation of an act of law. l Where the claim is ********** in any way. Conditions: Should a premium not be received in the month preceding the death of the Insured Life, only the premiums received from the Date of Commencement or reinstatement (whichever occurred last) up to that point will be paid and the total funeral benefit will be forfeited as cover is not provided under the funeral benefit in the month where a premium was not received. Premiums paid back will exclude additional benefit premiums. Premiums paid prior to reinstatement are forfeited from the premium pay back benefit. Where a Spouse is covered, the premiums paid back will be 50% of the total premium in the event of the death of either the Main Insured Life or Spouse.

Dear Alpha B,

Thank you for raising your concerns and bringing this matter to our attention.

As per telephonic discussion with you, we have given clarity with regards to how the Premium Back benefit is paid out between the policyholder and spouse.

Furthermore we have also changed the debit date to the most convenient day of the month for you and this will be effective as of the month of September 2020.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

Yours Sincerely,

Siphesihle Rodolo
