A bit disappointed...

Been paying over R700 a month for maybe 7 years and never used the policy so I decided to cancel it in November last year. As luck would have it I ended up in hospital a few days after cancelling the policy. Fortunately I was covered until the end of November and I could submit my claim. I was expecting slightly more than the R4000 odd they paid out. Looking at the website now they talk about a R20000 payment so I made an enquiry and got a call from one of the agents and got told that for R300 odd a month I could get R20000 lump sums - half of what I was paying. Maybe its my fault and I should keep up to date with what the policies claim to offer you. If I had put that R700 into a savings account it would have given me close to R42000 for all the time I have been paying them. And yes I realise that I wouldn't have been paying R700 a month each year, I probably started off paying R350 a month. Kind of makes you think. Maybe if they had contacted me and said we can save you some money each month as you are paying too much and you can get the same cover for half I would have stuck with them and would not be writing this negative review. To be honest I was quite impressed with their service through the claim process but I just feel a bit ********** since getting the payout and now finding out I could have been paying half.

Dear Andrew V

Thank you for raising your concerns with us.

Firstly we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your positive feedback on the level of service received from the company through the claims process, we really appreciate it.

Please be informed that we have different types of policies & benefits, as a result the premiums contributed are calculated as per the policy type selected by the client at that time and the age(s) of the covered individuals.

Our records indicate that you had a family Premium Hospital Policy with a premium of R383 upon inception, and due to the annual increases on the premium over the years the benefits also increased accordingly.

Kindly note that the current rate/premium of the policy type and benefits you had is more expensive now compared to what it was when you initially took the policy in the year 2013.

We trust that this gives you clarity regarding your discrepancies, and please feel free to contact us again should you need any further assistance or clarity.

Yours sincerely,
Siphesihle Rodolo

Best regards,

Thank you for getting back to me. You mention that the benefits increased accordingly with the annual increases but still no mention of what the benefits are/were and why the payout was so low?
