Request to cancel policy ignored and premiums deducted.

I had a policy with Clientele Legal. Policy Number was ********** 30.

I had invoked my policy in 2016, seeking legal assistance when my neighbor accidentally bumped into my motor vehicle but his insurance offered terms that were not agreeable. I ended up paying for the repairs myself and had to personally follow up his insurer for my refund. I was unhappy with the way Clientele handed the entire matter.

I wrote to the firm in May, voicing my displeasure at the lack of service. Though I received an automated response acknowledging that my complaint was received, I did not get a formal review neither was I contacted by any representatives from Clientele Legal.

Based on this bad experience, I decided to cancel the policy all together. I informed Clientele Legal in writing via email on May 23rd, 2017 with "Cancellation: Policy Number ********** 30" as the subject and sent to the following email addresses - ********** ********** ********** ********** My correspondence was electronically acknowledged by the following email addresses: ********** and ********** On May 24th 2017, I received an email signed by Jacquelene Bhugwandin, a Policy Consultant with the Client Services Department informing me of her regret at the lack of service and that she will forward my email to the legal Department who would contact me in 48 hours.

That was the last correspondence received with regards to my request. On Thursday afternoon at exactly 16:06, I received a telephone call from a Clientele Legal representative. We went through the usual security questions after which I informed her that the policy she was calling about was cancelled in May as far as I am concerned. To my dismay, she confirmed the policy was still active. She transferred me to the Legal Department where one of her colleagues mentioned that she will bring this matter to the attention of "Management."

I then checked my bank accounts and premiums were deducted upfront for June on May 29th and July on June 29th. One can excuse the deduction on May 29th, given the notice period but any payments after that cannot be valid as the policy should have been cancelled.

Overall - I was already disappointed with the service provided but the lack of professionalism with the cancellation in inexcusable:

1. I followed the laid-out procedures for cancelling the policy and informed the firm in writing as per out contract. The was no delivery failures on any of the addresses used meaning all 5 email boxes received my correspondence.

2. I received acknowledgement albeit electronically for my cancellation with at least one customer services representative responding to that regard. So, someone read my email and should have acted on my instructions.

3. Clientele Legal continued to deduct premiums despite acknowledging receipt of my cancellation notice in full contradiction to the contract we agreed on.

I can confirm that I have all correspondence and details mentioned above on file and would welcome any scrutiny from Clientele Legal should they wish to do so.

Reviewer Update

Hello Chanel,

Hope you are good. At exactly 08:22 AM this morning, I received an SMS on my registered mobile number, from my bank ABSA stating that R187 had been deducted from my account. The beneficiary is listed as Clientele and the reference is ********** 30.

As mentioned, my policy has been cancelled and I have received correspondance to that effect. Could you kindly look into this matter and reverse the transaction?

Regards,

Bernard
