Unpurchased Clicks Pharmacy Item(s)

Good day I was in Nelspruit for my festive holidays and made a quick stop at Emoyeni Mall on the 20th of January 2022. On my way out I stopped by at Clicks for an insect bite cream/ointment. When I got to the pay point I realized that I had left my bank card in the car as I first drove to the fuel station before going to the mall. I then left the cream at the pay point and proceeded with my trip with the hope of buying it at Ilanga Mall as my mom and I were driving back to Pretoria on that day. Strangely on the following day, the 21st of Jan, I received a call from Harmony the Pharmacist who assisted me the previous day asking me if I had payed for the cream. I told her that I had left it at the pay point as I didn't have enough cash with me and had forgotten my bank card in the car. Harmony then said she'll ask the till operator that I had described to have assisted me at the pay point when she gets back to work the following day and give me the feedback on her findings otherwise I will have to pay for the cream if they can't find it or else this incident will tarnish my reputation. I waited for the feedback up until today and decided to follow up. On both our telephone conversations she mentioned that as a customer I bear a responsibility of returning the unpurchased item(s) to the pharmacy. This came as a shock to me and I find it totally absurd! Leaving item(s) with a Clicks employee gave me an impression that it is in the safe hands unlike leaving it with any other customer in the store. I further asked her if what she says I should do going forward is a well known requirement from every customer, she said yes. To my surprise though, I've never seen such stipulated in any Clicks Store I've visited just to make every customer aware of such a requirement. To me, this seems like Harmony's personal requirement. I request consistency in certain procedures or processes that we have to abide by as Clicks customers. I could be in a hurry someday and fail to do what she says I should do going forward and leaving something behind with the company's employee actually puts me as a customer at ease that it is safe otherwise, what are Clicks employees there for then!? I asked her if there was at least a security video footage that we can have a look at and she said she doesn't know anything of that sort and she really can't help me with that I should rather talk to Prince. I am TOTALLY UNHAPPY with the way Harmony handled this incident especially her threat of tarnishing my reputation, which she denied on our second telephone conversation. It is so unfortunate that I do not have a recording of our first conversation, however I do have a recording of our last conversation which I can make available if required so. I'm in a retail industry myself, I get to deal with ER issues, Inductions, Trainings and customer related queries a lot in stores and know for a fact that no company could ever expect or require such from its customers. Customer service skills are crucial when dealing with customers and I would suggest that Harmony should be thoroughly inducted and trained so that she can know how to better handle such incidents and know what to say to customers. Thank you. Xolile Mkhasibe *** *** / ***
