Sies, #Clicks #Pavilion Shopping Centre!

I have been a Clicks customer and #ClicksClubcard holder for over 10 years. Buying tolitteries at Clicks is part of my monthly routine. Then, I spend at least R1 200 coz I add the #Azzaro #Chrome Eau de Toilette to my list. For the past four months I've been shopping at the Clicks in Pavilion Shopping Centre. The perfume section there is ussually staffed by 2 Assistants. This past Saturday one of them subjected me to foul customer profiling. As I was getting the Azzaro cologne she asked me if I was "done shopping." I said "yes." Instead of allowing me to take the cologne off the shelf, she grabbed it and led me to the till section. I asked her to put it in my trolley and she refused, saying that protocol is "she has to walk me to the paypoint, just in case I decided to leave the cologne." Let that **** sink in... After explaining to her how offensive her actions were, I asked to speak to the Manager. The Store Manager's name is Maurreen and she told me that there's nothing wrong with the practise. In fact, she went on to tell me that"the cologne is a high risk purchase" so her Assistant was right. The cologne costs R599. Maurreeen was adamant that this is the Clicks way and the young Assistant was doing as she was trained. Really? I did not swear or shout but I was offended that this woman was insinuating that I am a threat to her stock and shop. I also had the sensibility to not point out to her that with my level of earnings, I had no intentions of shoplifting. She couldn't give me satisfactory answers on the following: If I buy four R150 Nivea sunscreens, is that a high risk purchase which would see an Assistant escorting me to the paypoint? Is the young Assistant a Perfume Assistant or security guard...or both? Are Clicks Beaty Assistants trained to be crime busters more than knowing about notes and scent compositions? Does Clicks only do this escorting thing to young Black customers? In fact, how many Black customers have they subjected to this humiliating experience?

Maurreen apologised that I was offended by this and offered to "evaluate the practise." For a Manager in a country with much publicised ****** like South Africa, this is a shame.
