HPCSA Violation, Misconduct, ************** against disabled

Clicks Pharmacy: Lynnridge Mall Date of incident: Sunday 10 May 2020 Time: Just after 13:00pm.

Fore review kindly view your cameras.

Complaint: I am a disabled individual (optic atrophy - very poor vision), I am not permitted to drive.

My usual pharmacy is Dischem, to my dismay I went to Clicks pharmacy, as it was near where I am presently residing.

I phoned before going t understand what s required.

I arrived, with an Uber as I may not drive due to my disability. I provided a script which was printed out to the lady at the dispensary.

"Where is the original", rudely, was her reply.

I advised her that this was emailed to me by the Dr. and she is in Centurion, while I am living here due to lockdown restrictions. Travel is a complication for me and thus the Dr. emailed me a script.

She was adamant that "you have to forward the email to us we cannot accept this for schedule 5 medication".

Firstly: She could easily phone, or contact the medical offices whom produced the script. She did not even think to offer this? Secondly: According to HPCSA ethical guidelines any professional in a pharmacy is ethically required to consider the situation at hand, the legislation and rules as well as their moral and ethical responsibility to act in the client's best interest.

In this situation the ethical action would be to recognize that a disabled individual is in a difficult position, offer an alternative, maybe phone the Dr. I explained I'm not able to send the email as I'm blind.

I felt so victimized due to this blatant ignorance and ************** from this clicks employee that when I got home I phned the store.

After taking an uber home i explained to the "supervisor on duty", apprantly "Cynthia" what had happend. I explained to her I am currently studying psychology and had recently completed a course on ethics and would like to lay a formal charge of ethical misconduct against this person.

I do not know her name, the supervisor did attempt to phone me back 3 times, regrettably I missed these calls.

However, i phoned back about 10 minutes after seeing the missed calls. I asked for Cynthia, the peron whm answered asked me to "hold for a moment", she forgot to mute the phone. I could hear her speaking with Cynthia in the background, they said something and then laughed. She came back to the phone: "Cynthia has just stepped out sir".

I said, mam, do you realize that I just heard you speaking with her, why are you lying to me? She asked me to hold again. She then came back and mentioned "She is busy with a client".

Ethical misconduct Poor customer service Blatant disrespect ************** against people with disabilities

This is not only an HPCSA violation, a human rights abuse, poor customer service, but is blatant cruelty during a time where we are all suffering, and I was there for prescribed anxiety medication.

And don't you worry, I then took an uber to Dischem, they phoned the Dr. were happy to assist, treated me like a human being, showing genuine concern.

I am sick to my stomach of this behaviour.
