Clicks should be sued

On Thursday last week (27/02) in the afternoon, I was at the Clicks store returning an item when I heard a man call for medical help. I was not far and I am a trauma-trained nursing sister who was in full uniform. An elderly lady had slipped on an unmarked wet floor in the queue to the tills. I ran to assist, cleared her cervical spine, checked her pupils, got an essential medical history from her husband, and identified her only injury as a massive haematoma on her forehead. The wet and very dirty floor was clearly apparent, and was in no way cautioned against. After a good amount of time, with people literally jumping over the injured lady, the clinic nurse appeared, literally took one look at the patient, and said she'd get some ice. I asked her if we could at least get the lady to lie on the bed in the clinic and she responded that she is not allowed to do so. I asked her if she is kidding me. She said she will arrange the mall to get a wheelchair and will have to call an ambulance. She disappeared and did not return with feedback or an ice-pack. Meanwhile, the injured lady was lying on the floor, wanting to get up, but was offered no assistance. At the same time, the haematoma was getting larger and concerned me greatly. The manager literally just stood there and said nothing, not even an apology. Eventually, as I had left my 2 young sons alone at customer services, I had to leave, utterly disgusted and disappointed in the attitude and lack of training of the staff at Clicks. I gave the lady's husband my number and told him to contact me should he need a witness.

Although I am trauma-trained, I run a community clinic, and this is not how any store, let alone one with a nurse on duty, should treat a patient, especially when the problem was clearly the fault of the store. We are prepared and trained for any medical emergency in the centre and vicinity in which my clinic is located.

I am highly disappointed in the behaviour and non-action of the staff and I sincerely hope that this couple sues Clicks for the damage and humiliation this poor lady had to go through.
