Clicks sells near expiry chocolates at full price

On 13 May 2026, I visited the Clicks Gateway branch intending to purchase a 200g box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates priced at R180. I decided to return to the store to make the purchase when leaving the mall.

When I returned at around 10:05am, I noticed that the shelf was now empty. I asked a Clicks employee who was in front of the chocolate shelf with a trolley. She responded that she is moving the Ferrero Rocher’s to the shelf immediately above the original location of the chocolates. All the boxes of 200g of Ferrero Rocher chocolates were now in her trolley. I asked if I can take one and she agreed.

I then examined the expiry date on the box of chocolates and noted that they expire in July 2026. I informed her of the expiry date and returned the box of chocolates. Customers who purchased these expensive chocolates would have been truly disappointed.

Clicks expects the public to purchase near-expiry items at full price without disclosure or discount.

Clicks should be transparent about expiry dates and offer fair pricing on products nearing expiry.

Prioritising company profits before honesty and consumer consideration is truly disappointing.
