Clicks refuse to take back defective items

I received a blender stick set as a gift for December and when i attempted to use it for the first time it did not work the buttons on the stick is faulty , it stuck in and won’t work, I tried to take it to my nearest clicks and was refused assistance by the manager because I did not have a slip , do you receive a gifts with a slip ? Do you not have a gift policy? , I can produce the club card number that it was purchased on but the manager at Watermeyer clicks was not interested in helping me , i now sit with a machine that I cannot use because if the defective buttons and a company that rips people off and refuses to help !
