Bank pay card machine off

Hi. Went to clicks Ermelo to buy stuff. Getting everything I went to till to pay. Standing in a long que and getting to the till they only ask me then do I pay with card or cash. I said card and they told me they cannot help me because machine was off. I ask them why then only they telling me that and not when I entered the shop and before I spend all the time in the shop. Their was no respons.
