50% La Roshe-Posay false advertising by Clicks

Hello Peter I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the recent 50% La Roche-Posay promotion advertised on your online platform and the unacceptable handling of my order #***.

I placed my order at 1:34 AM on the day the sale went live, deliberately setting an alarm to ensure I secured the deal before stock ran out. I received a confirmation email from Clicks acknowledging that the order was successful and my items were reserved.

However, on Monday afternoon I received an email informing me that two out of the three products I purchased were now out of stock and I would only receive one item. I was then asked to provide banking or Clicks ClubCard details for a refund. This is wholly unacceptable.

Had I been informed earlier — particularly on the same Saturday when I visited Clicks Southway Mall in the afternoon — I could have taken advantage of the same promotion at other retailers such as Dischem or Takealot, who were running identical 50% offers. Instead, I was misled by a confirmed order that gave me the assurance that stock was secured.

I requested a rain check or for the missing stock to be sourced from another store, but I was told by Jamierodien Bam the consultant that Clicks does not offer rain checks and that the sale was “while stocks last.” This response fails to address the real issue: I placed my order on time, received confirmation, and still ended up short-changed.

It is extremely disappointing that your systems allowed confirmed orders for stock that clearly was not available. This practice borders on false advertising and undermines consumer trust. It also suggests that Clicks does not value loyal customers. I have supported Clicks for over 20 years and chose your store despite the poor user experience of your app, which I have previously reported.

I request the following resolution: 1. Fulfillment of my original order in full, even if stock needs to be sourced from another branch. 2. If not possible, a voucher or equivalent compensation to honour the 50% discount lost.

Should this matter not be resolved promptly, I will be escalating it to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO)
