Rather not buy a Citizen Ecodrive and definately do not take it for a battery at CJR Gift Sales (Citizen authorised)

On 2016-06-14 I took my eco-drive watch to CJR Gift Sales (Pty) Ltd for the replacement of a battery unit. I phoned the agency and enquired if I can wait for the replacement of the battery. The person that I spoke to said it was not possible since it is a complicated watch and a thorough assessment must be done before the battery can be replaced. I accepted it.

When I took in the watch, I asked how long it will take. The receptionist said it rarely takes more than 10 days.

I got agitated after several calls when the watch was not ready and spoke to the Operational Manager, which is a friendly understanding gentleman with the name of Jacob Botha, on 2016-07-01. He promised that it will be ready on 4 July 2016 and confirmed it with an e-mail. On 4 July he was not at work and being extremely frustrated, I spoke to the CEO which is a nice gentleman with the name of Rowan. He arranged for me to collect the watch on 4 July.

When I received the watch, the selector dial was out of sync on Alarm 3 and it seemed as if it was not properly aligned with the modes. I later also noted that the minute dial which previously moved only when the seconds dial was on 0, 15, 30 and 45, now moves on 7, 22, 37, and 52 which according to me is because the person who was supposed to replace the battery was either not experienced or made a mistake when assembling it

I decided not to take it back immediately, since I was not prepared to wait so long for it to be fixed, without a watch. I also went on leave for 8 days and was out of town. While on leave the selector dial came loose and fell off.

On 2016-07-20 I phoned Rowan at CJR Gift Sales and told him about the incident. I indicated that I am not happy with the work and need it to be repaired but with a shorter turnaround time. He said to me the watch is old and these things happen. I will have to pay to have it fixed and I can do whatever I want, he will not change his decision

My issues are as follow:

This is not a cheap entry level watch;

The adverti*****t of the Eco Drive says “It starts with a simple, yet revolutionary concept; a timepiece that never needs a battery change.” Is this not false advertising?

The thorough assessment that took so long to be done should surely have picked up if the dial was loose, which it was not when I gave it in;

I received the watch back not working properly and expect that to be covered by the original fee that I paid.

I reported the issue to Citizen Watch Company international who refered it to the local agent who obviously stick to their lack of assistance. Thus, rather buy other products than what is serviced by CJR Gift Sales.
