CITTON CARS - NEVER AGAIN
Bought a top spec SUV from the Gezina branch after driving 8 hours to get there. The process took 3 hours to complete. The test drive was a joke in that the car was running on fumes and in limp mode. I felt rushed and ushered. Nevertheless I went through with the deal. Was given a voucher for fuel in order to be able to leave a review, which in retrospect has the aftertaste of a bribe for good review. I took the car and it behaved reasonably well on the 800 odd kilometres highway driving. After driving it for a month or so in urban conditions, a number of suspension problems became evident. Took the car for independent assessment at two different specialist centres. Both identified that the faults was highly indicative of impact damage, and some things had been repaired with low quality parts just as a patch up job. Quotations for repair amounted to around 50 000 Rands. I contacted Citton and was standoffishly told to claim from the Motorite insurance that they had sold me on the day if the deal. Motorite informed me that they don't pay for wear and tear, and that I had been sold the car with the wrong size tires, which additionally made a claim null and void! I reached out again to Citton Cars and was told by the workshop manager that the car has had the necessary work done and anything additional is wear and tear that I incurred during my one month of driving. Why was I not informed on the day of the purchase that the car had been damaged ? I asked for a refund, a swop or a proper repair job and was bluntly referred to the Ombudsman as they were not interested in my woes. Additionally it took Citton Cars 6 (six) months to send me the ownership documents and as the RWC had long expired I was told to do my own Roadworthy. I could have done that, but the car would never have passed the Roadworthy test, leaving me with the original problem of dishing out 50 grand for repairs! Now, 9 months after the purchase I managed to trade in the car for way under it's value, leading to great financial loss. By the way, my new deal with another dealer in Pretoria was immaculately executed and took 40 minutes to complete, but it still cost me 16 hours of driving and all the additional costs and anxiety. In summary, in this deal Citton Cars behaved like charlatans and did everything to duck and dive out of responsibility, we're disinterested in the aftersale ethics and never followed up at least with a courtesy phone call. I am disgusted and very angry indeed.
