Unbelievably expensive electricity! They take the landlord's base tariff AFTER VAT, add a 9% charge, a 3% fee and on top of this, they RECHARGE VAT of 15% on all of this together, instead of VAT only on the +/-12% "value added". The total charge is 30% over the landlord's electricity charge. It's basically ********. Please do not use this service provider. I am trying to move to another service, and will update my review accordingly.

01 Jul 2020, 21:25Hi. Apologies - I was in a business call when you phoned (number ending 7254?). My meter number is *** and my tenant's is ***. Last Saturday he bought R50 electricity to test my theory and he got 14.0 units. I have screenshots to show this. That's R3.57/unit. I pay no more than R2.52 after VAT for that same electricity, which means Citiq is marking up by almost 42%. Feel free to explain here in this public forum if you can't get hold of me again. Thanks.

For some reason there was a sharp increase in the tenant's base tariff a month or two ago. No idea why. It was Citiq's call centre that couldn't explain why - they kept insisting the charge was correct, and according to my own calculations the only way that could have been correct was double VAT. In any case, now that I have direct contact with someone knowledgable at Citiq I am more likely to give them a second chance. Their fees are not the lowest in the business, but after the fight I feel like I at least understand their system a bit better.
