Citiq Prepaid poor service and very expensive

Our landlord put in citiq prepaid meters about two weeks ago, as sub meters to the main meter from the Ekurhuleni municipality. These meters come with R5 worth of electricity and we purchased via FNB R100 worth of electricity and only received R63.6 (not to mention that when we bought the R100 worth there was still R3 left) and yesterday I bought R150 worth of electricity again via FNB. I received R89 worth of electricity. I called the call centre and I spoke to the most *********** person in the world by the name of Phillip. He first told me that the rate per unit is R1.25 then no that is only the base rate without vat. Then if you include vat and the 5% administration charge and 9% of some other charge you get a rate per unit of 1.58. If I divide this 1.58 with 150 I should get 89 which is the electricity received. Then he changed his mind again and said the rate is 1.68. The rates are expensive, not to mention how quickly the electricity finishes. In the last two weeks I have paid R250 for electricity and I have received a measly amount in return. I shedder to think how much I'm going to spend in winter. Citiq prepaid is a ******* and has *********** staff.

Hello klegal,

Thank you for your email.

At Citiq Prepaid we strive to offer the BEST service in the electricity collection industry, and we take complaints very seriously. We will go back to the recorded log of the conversation, and will take appropriate action where required.

In response to your query around the electricity tariff that you pay :

Firstly, please note that Citiq Prepaid does not set the tariff on your meter. The tariff you pay is a function of the electricity tariffs levied to the Owner (of your property) by the Ekurhuleni Municipality.

When you purchase a re-charge token for your meter, you pay that tariff, plus an admin fee (9.25% of the token + vat) for the service of vending the token, and collecting and recovering the amount on behalf of your owner. There may also be an additional charge levied by the retailer or channel that you use to purchase the token, though there are FREE channels such as EFT and cash deposit (see our website for more details) so this fee can be avoided.

If you send me your meter number, I can send you a full breakdown of your tariff and advise you how to minimise any charges.

Let me know if I can assist you further

Kind regards
Simon
