Citiq overcharging and most likely have meters that are tuned in their favour.
First off, let me just state that I'm a long time user of prepaid power in a different area,. Moved to Pretoria, into a smaller house due to financial constraints.
This 2 bedroom house is fitted with a Citiq meter, and it immediately became apparent that something was off. The electricity rate is beyond mad. R3.40 per unit on the website, R3.58 through the FNB app.
But more worrying is the consumption... with fewer items, and a gas stove instead of a normal electric unit, we are consuming way more power then we did in the previous MUCH bigger house which didn't have a gas stove.
No heaters, no stove, 2 fridges and a freezer.... easily passing 1000 units per month. I'm going to install some unit to measure the electricity independently and see how it stacks up, but I'm almost convinced the Citiq meter is "tuned" to give them profits and not reflect actual consumption.
Speaking to the call centre, I was informed that the tarrif was correct... R3.40 per unit?? Apparently it should be "closer to R3.00", but actually Tshwane's highest tarrif is R2.28 ex vat.
Either way, I don't see Citiq responding here, so I'm just venting a bit.
We urge you to contact the landlord with regards to the tariff query, unfortunately, the landlord needs to advise us on the rate set for recovery.
